What is Revved?

Revved 5.0 now makes your internet experience up to seven times faster than standard dialup, using your existing dialup phone line and modem. You do not need any extra equipment. It allows you to surf at near DSL speed, making Revved the high-speed internet solution with the convenience of dialup. It is easy to install, runs seamlessly and doesn't alter any of your existing software. You can also control the amount of compression vs. speed gain yourself.

What gets accelerated?

Revved compresses the following elements of web pages in order to send the information to your computer faster:
  • Text
  • Web pages - HTML markup and JavaScript
  • Graphics including JPEG and GIF images
  • E-mail - POP and SMTP (Windows Only)

What will not be accelerated?

Although Revved is able to compress many different types of online data, there are a few which cannot be accelerated:
  • Streaming media, audio and video files
  • Secure pages, such as those used for online banking and credit card forms
  • Files and attachments such as music or digital photos

How does it work?

Revved 5.0 uses Now!Imaging technology to optimize the loading of web pages and the displaying of graphics to increase the speeds at which web pages load. Current browsers deliver web pages, which increasingly contain more graphics, one image at a time. This can result in a frustrating internet experience, especially over slow connections, as it takes a long time for the user to see the complete page in a usable form.

Web accelerators have attempted to address this problem by optimizing the amount of image data using data compression. While this compression results in faster delivery of images, the images are still rendered just one at a time, creating frustrating waits for usable pages. More importantly, the compression used by web accelerators results in a significant sacrifice in image quality, and can require the user to manually adjust image quality settings.
