SERVICE TECHNICIAN

JOB DESCRIPTION

Performs field technical work for both cable television installation, high speed data networking, including routers, for transmission or transport of voice, multimedia, or data. Responsibilities include daily organization of service calls, customer relations, problem solving, maintenance duties, and for turn-on of new distribution system.

• Install and connect Ethernet network interface card in customer computer
• Install and configure Network IP setup for the Ethernet network interface card
• Troubleshoot problems to allow customer’s PC to properly operate over the CTS Broadband network.
• Knowledgeable of basic characteristics and functions of the feeder line system components and drops.
• Diagnoses and changes out power supplies and line amplifiers in the field as required.
• Performs underground and aerial construction duties customarily associated with a CATV and Fiber operation, including, but not limited to, assisting in installation of all rigid and semi-rigid coaxial cable, including pole line construction within the overhead plant and all underground installations; installation of all vaults, pedestals, boxes or equipment used to house CATV, Fiber, and Wireless equipment; locating of existing underground cables and use of a cable fault locator (TDR); removing from service or transferring from pole all of the above.
• Guys, lashes, relashes, pulls and splices cable.
• Manipulates connectors, fasteners and wire and uses hand tools.
• Climb poles with proper equipment (safety belt, safety strap and climbers), ladders or other structures as needed. Lifts and carries loads up to 70lbs (including 28 ft ladder); uses bucket truck when required (after receiving certification). Works within limited confines, such as crawl spaces.
• Other functions that may be assigned.
• On Call duty will be required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Service as Installer Technician for at least six months, or equivalent previous experience.
• Valid driver’s license; satisfactory driving record.
• Knowledge of PC’s, client/server architectures, bridges, local area networks, wide area networks, and IP networks are highly desired.
• Ability to operate all tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and at various heights.

Ability to work flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.

Working Conditions

· Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, insects, cleaning solutions

· Work outdoors in all kinds of weather and at all times of the day or night

· Work performed near aerial power lines and electricity

· Work and travel in inclement weather

· Ability to safely use weight-bearing equipment (such as gaffs, safety harness and ladders) within the maximum weight limitations of that equipment
